Another football season is rapidly approaching, and the Buckeyes
will probably be ranked in the top 5 as the season begins. Ohio State
has found itself ranked #1 at season's end the past two years only to
lose in the National Championship Game.
The 2008 season has the same possibility looming should the
Buckeyes escape southern California with a victory on September 13.
Either way, the winner of that game will have a clear advantage for
the rest of the season, provided they stay undefeated through their
conference schedule.
Even the loser could be basking in the Florida sun come January.
Why?? Just look at last year. The Buckeyes all but had their tickets
validated for Pasadena until late losses by Missouri and West Virginia
elevated the Bucks back on top again. Many fans said that Ohio State
backed into the national championship game.......but, not according
to this fan. The Buckeyes WON their last game, everyone else didn't.
So.....the old saying about "it's when you lose" couldn't have been
any more evident than last season.
Am I writing off the rest of the Buckeye schedule this year ? ?
Are you kidding me................Heck No ! !
Take the first game against Youngstown State, all you need to
say is Appalachian State to chalk up a recent memory.
Then, you have Ohio University & Troy University, a couple of teams
that can be dangerous if the Buckeyes aren't ready to play.
The BigTen schedule isn't going to be a picnic, either, with games
at Wisconsin, Michigan State and Illinois. History has already proven
that those games, in their house, are not a guarantee. Then, you have
Penn State & Michigan at home...........easy, right??........I don't think so.
JoePa has the Lions ready for a breakout year and Michigan is Michigan,
no matter who's coaching..........I still, sadly, remember 1969.
Well............that is my take on the upcoming season.
GO BUCKS ! ! !
